Software

Notes: (1) for YUV viewer software, see the list on the YUV viewers page

         (2) for broadcast applications and how to play-out the video clips in real-time over SDI (or similar), see the broadcast applications page

         (3) suitable software to view stereoscopic 3D images is StereoMovie Maker, downloadable from   http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stvmkr/.   NOTE that

StereoMovie Maker needs the YUV Tvids wrapped in an AVI: this can easily be done using FFMPEG.  Please contact TestVid for information.

Program name

Purpose

yuvcropsize

Utility program to reduce size of video by removing lines from the top and/or columns from the right of each video frame: allows virtually any other HD size video to be made from the video files provided.

yuvmake1088

Add extra lines at the top/bottom of a 1920x1080 YUV file to make it 1920x1088

yuvletterbox

Add black bars top & bottom (or left & right) of each video frame to create letterboxed (or pillarboxed) video

Example 3D video

The video sample below is low resolution and low bit rate, as

  • this is a reasonable size to download
  • and can be easily viewed on an ordinary monitor as it is anaglyph

Yes, we know anaglyph is bad, but at least you can easily see it on a normal monitor, with just a pair of red/cyan glasses (red over the left eye), and many people investigating 3D may not yet have polarized monitors or shutter glasses.

NOTE THAT THE ACTUAL TVIDS SUPPLIED ARE UNCOMPRESSED, SEPARATE VIEWS OF LEFT AND RIGHT

1min 10 secs (intro is 2D: 3D follows from 13 secs)

(Also don’t forget that there is some quality loss
due to the compression down to 2MBits/sec)

Example paired images

Single L+R frames from 6 of the clips: click image to view JPEG images: NOTE some quality loss due to JPEG

Note:

In T3D003, most of the clips are colour corrected but some are not [e.g. 16_Duck_truck], as this represents the situations a codec will encounter

Higher resolution samples suitable for viewing on a polarized monitor

Note: we have higher resolution, higher bit rate 3D samples, and very short uncompressed HD samples, where you can download separate Left and Right streams, suitable for polarized/other monitors.  Please contact to request the link to download these (total 150MBytes - 300Mbytes per sample).
